I took advantage of the dark background to underexpose the image, bringing out the colors, and an intermediate depth of field setting (f/18) so that a horizontal cross section of drops were fully in focus. Allowing the drops in front and behind to go out of focus made their fantastic reflected colors more abstract and interesting. I was particularly pleased with the way the specular highlights (out of focus bright areas that appear to be optical artifacts) came out in this photo and in the water drop photo on the facing page.
