He showed me not to go to sleep at night with regrets about things you wanted to do during the day. He taught me not to rest when there is still anger between you and a friend. He showed me how to absorb the love of those around you and to store it in your heart. If you want to have a bad day, you will have one. I know now, the outcome of my life depends solely on my attitude toward it. It will “make or break you,” a teacher once told me. Now I try to go through life not merely to get by, but to really live and experience things, because like my uncle, when it is time, I want to go without regrets.

I was proud of the hate; I was proud of the insanity; I was proud of my psychotic attitude; I was proud of the negative attention I received from everyone. So I continued with this nightmarish life of hate. My heart was made of anger and my vision clouded by rage. For three years this continued, and I sank ever deeper into this pit of intolerance and horrible hate. On June 11, 1998 my mother and I took a trip out west to visit a successful old on redemption 35 friend in Seattle. I had arrived there with the same attitude I’d lived with for the past three years, still one of extreme hate and anger.

Our greatest aspiration in life was to get even with the entire human race for what we felt were great offenses committed against us. I was never nice to strangers no matter who they were or how they treated me. My mind was made up to hate the entire world, and I did. I was a sociopath of the worst kind, straight on the path to be the world’s next public enemy #1. But that was not the worst— the worst of all this was that I was proud of myself. I was proud of the hate; I was proud of the insanity; I was proud of my psychotic attitude; I was proud of the negative attention I received from everyone.
