Laughs] Yeah, I get that after I swim, in the showers. ” You’re like, “Really? ” I don’t know what to say. You know what? ” And I go, “Oh my god! ” You know? Stupid. Could you talk really quick about your parents or about what they thought or about— My parents . . my parents are Jewish schoolteachers who were really put off by me getting tattooed. But they’re pretty liberal and openminded and I think once they got over the initial shock of the stigma they attached to it in their generation, ’cause they were coming off, you know, Holocaust survivors were the only Jews who had tattoos .

Anything you want. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, where tattooing was illegal until the late ’90s. The only guys who had tattoos were guys who had been in jail and older Italian guys—wiseguys. And most people got their tattoos from Tony Polito on Westridge Boulevard. I thought he only had four tattoos. He had the panther, the Christ head, the parrot, and the redheaded girl with her foot on the pirate chest. Being that I didn’t really like any of those things I was never really going to get a tattoo.

So like, when you’re in the supermarket— when me and Tera are in the supermarket, standing in line at fuckin’ Whole Foods, waiting to get some fuckin’ whatever we’re getting . . a four- or five-year-old kid will come over and touch my skin. Yeah, I’ve had that happen. Because, wow, look how interesting that is. And it’s their parents who— I like that, though. Me, too! I think that’s honest. They’re inquisitive and they’re trying to learn about life and they’re interested in something different.
